Heat resilience in healthcare: a peer-learning exchange with Dresden, Grenoble, and Barcelona”

By September 8, 2025No Comments

Rising temperatures and extreme heat are increasing pressure on healthcare systems and frontline workers.

Since the start of the Adaptation AGORA project, the Dresden Pilot engaged with different stakeholders from the health sector and organised a focus group together with representatives of HealthforFuture Dresden and the personnel of the local Hospital. The discussion focused on heat impacts on hospitals and health workers, as well as measures for heat resilience in healthcare facilities, such as developing a Heat Protection Plan for the local hospital.

The Dresden Pilot will take center stage in an upcoming online peer-learning session, alongside the cities of Grenoble and Barcelona. City officials and healthcare professionals will exchange experiences on the challenges and opportunities of adapting healthcare services to rising temperatures and explore how municipalities and key stakeholders can co-design effective solutions.

This event is part of a series and follows three other sessions, where we explored participatory experiences for climate adaptation in Italy (with the Pilot city of Rome and the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia),  heatwave preparedness in the Pilot city of Malmö and the city of Valencia, and measures to address energy poverty in the Iberian Peninsula (with the Pilot city of Zaragoza and the cities of Barcelona, Valencia and Almada).

The event will be held in English and will take place on September 22nd, 2025, from 11:30 to 13:00 CET. To further explore this topic before the session, check out the specific Theme on the Adaptation AGORA Community Hub.

This event is part of a series of four online Peer-to-Peer Learning sessions that will be held until September 2025 and will involve the pilots of the Adaptation AGORA project, addressing key issues related to climate adaptation and public participation. This series of events aims to foster the exchange of knowledge, resources and methodologies that can facilitate public participation in Climate Adaptation Plans in different European cities, regions and communities.
